Why is he so complicated?

we’re not in a relationship, but i feel there’s a connection we have to one another…he’s disappeared on me a couple of times…yet, he’d later show up at random, acting as if nothing had happened…he compliments me and checks me out a lot (i thought it was obvious what he was after) but then, we’ve had candid conversations, where he asked many questions about myself and my future plans…strangely though, when he tried to open up to me, it seemed something would hold him back…he has me scratching my head! one time, i told him he was confusing me, and when i asked him what he wanted with me, he answered “i wish i knew…” what’s the deal with him?
