Laptop icons gone missing??!!!?

I have a toshiba satellite laptop. Today I found that my volume icon in the bottom right corner of my screen has disapeared. I've checked everywhere for it, I've told my laptop to show ALL of the icons- the list included the volume icon. But it still doesn't come up! The laptop registers it, since it's in my list of icons. But now I can't turn up my volume, and I can't listen to practically anything!
