Is toshiba laptops good? If not, which kind are?

lately, i've been looking around for a laptop. I was thinking about getting a toshiba since the price looks resonable and i dont wanna spend much, but i was wondering if that brand is any good. If not, can any one recomend any good one's? NOTE: i dont wanna spend much, at least less than $500 would be nice.
