How do i fix the black screen of death?

My toshiba laptop loads the toshiba loading screen, then it say windows is starting (windows 7) but after that, it starts back at the toshiba screen. I have a toshiba satellite l455, and do not have the recovery disk, is there anyway i can fix it. Im not that computer savy, so if you have the answer, can you give me steps to fix it?
